Carers Week 2009...

Well, haven't I been busy!

lol Last year for Carers Week, I met with Scotland's health secretary Nicola Sturgeon, to try and raise Carers issues and this year well....I was on the...

Cool or what? LOL

The reporters came to our home to film on Tuesday and it was all edited and on the news for Friday night!

Coo wasn't well enough to be filmed but in any case he wouldn't have been keen, he's a bit quieter than me!

I only hope sharing my story helps other Carers push for better services and a bit of help.

Here's hoping,

Sunshiney Days...

Hi guys! I'm back from Blackpool

The Central Travelodge is fantastic!!

and the weather?
Well...it was fantastic too! LOL

It was sunny every day so we walked on the beach, ate ice-cream and generally chilled out and it was GREAT! lol

Just look at the view from our room!

Cool or what!

We giggled like kids and had a real fun time and we both feel a benefit from that as Coo has been really poorly and we've both been stressed lately.

Anyways, another bonus...Coo wasn't too bad while we were away, mind you he was falling asleep by 8 o'clock every night - must have been the sea air!

We're pretty much shattered with the travelling but it sure was fun.

I'm so glad the sun stuck around as everything seems so much brighter when the sun shines doesn't it!

Of course, no visit to Blackpool is complete without a hurl on the trams! lol

We sure had fun!

stormy times...

Hi guys!

Things have been a bit on the rough side this last week I'm afraid as Coo is poorly... yet again!

Looby's been nursing a cold for over 2 weeks and poor Coo has succumbed to the dreaded germs and being Coo, things have been pretty bleak!

It's seizure city again and to cap it all our G.P. gave him some pain killers which have not agreed with him! AAAAAArrggggg!
So, I've had to do my Nurse Nancy bit again! lol
The last 48 hours have consisted of alternating bouts of seizures and screaming matches - honestly I needed to dig deep for patience as round the clock seizures and mood swings are, well...just a tad wearing! lol

Thank goodness the dreaded pain relief - which we won't be using again, is now leaving his sytem slowly but surely - horray, thank the lord for that!

He still has a cough and a temperature but he's returning to his usual sunny self!

Poor Coo, any infection at all now seems to flip things right off the planet.

Thank goodness he's improving as on Monday we're getting ready to travelodge it in Blackpool!
I was beginning to think it'd need to be cancelled but surely God would not be that cruel to us - we so need a break!

I guess I'll be thankful for the improvement and say a wee prayer it continues!

Next week Blackpool has to have ice-cream eating weather as I've ordered it specially!
Wish us luck! lol

Now doesn't that look Fab?
I can almost taste it Mmmmmm! LOL

Sunny and settled times to you and yours,
love,

Parliament calls to Carers...

Hi guys!

You'll have noticed from the title I've had some more dealings with the parly!

Well, both Rob,(another Carer who really helped hugely, with the scottish end of the Poverty Protest) and myself have been invited to meet with MSP's in June.
I'm just glad they seem to be listening and hope something positive comes out of it!

Unfortunately, I've had to decline this time as it's in the same week I've booked for Coo and I to travelodge-it at Blackpool - typical!

While it would have been nice to hob-nob at the parly, it'll be even nicer still if the sun shines for Coo and I at Blackpool!

Speaking of sunshine, would you beleive it?
It hasn't rained here for 4 whole days...
Now that is a record!

After 6 weeks of rainy days...
we think we're in the Bahamas!! lol

Back to the parly and the protest issues...

I'm pretty sure there'll be other times to fight the good fight so this time I'm being a bit selfish as a wee break away - and not of the choccy biscuit variety! is really more needed.
Come to think of it - we could do with some chocolate too! lol

Anyways, I hope the sun's shinning where you are and things are being kind to you and yours,

Carers find their voice...

The march was a blast...not that you should use that word regarding a parliament visit - but it was! LOL

We left from the coast at 10 o'clock and arrived in at edinburgh at quarter past twelve.
The weather behaved, I'm so glad the sun came out as it made the march much more enjoyable!

Here's some pics...you can't miss me!
I'm the one in the eye-catching fashion combo...
Red Tartan and hi-vis yellow vest,

Making our way down the 'Royal Mile'

Well, I guess I was visible! LOL

Let's hope our government listens...

We are now officially youtube stars!LOL

Carers Speak

April 22nd is a date we now know,
That Carers took action and to Parliament did go!
Well Carers at last decided to speak.
To tell of their issues and the help they seek.

From all corners of the land,
They were at Parliament as planned.
It’s so sad they needed to take to the street.
To plead and inform all they could meet.

The question is will our government take heed,
of struggling Carers stressed and in need.
Who knows, we will see.
What will be will be,
but surely someone will help with this burden of theirs.
After all, dear Lord, there must be at least one who cares!

It’s a long hard fight and we’ll struggle on through.
Please remember Carers for it so could be you.

Carers and the Parliament...

Hi guys!

My Carer group are gearing up for the visit to the Parliament.

Today we were making up our banners so everyone will know who we are - we're a shy lot really! LOL

Our own MSP (Irene Oldfather), won't be there on the day as she is in Brussells but we've found another one to step in and meet with us on the day so we'll be fine.

It was a bit of a panic though as without an MSP, people can't get any further than the foyer area so I'm glad we found someone else willing to lend a hand!

Well, our bus is booked and we found a driver willing to take us up to the capital so we are all set.

I am saying a few words and reading my poem.

I'm getting a wee bit jittery about speaking at the parliament but I'm ok...I'm sure it'll all be fine once I get going!LOL

The press and the T.V. people have agreed to cover the day in both Edinburgh and London so watch out on the news! maybe you'll see us all!

Incidently, we will be wearing tartan and our banners all say North Ayrshire, Three Towns Carers.

Good Luck to all who are marching and speaking out, we'll do it for those others who just can't get there themselves!
Wish us luck!

Back on the up...

Hi guys!
Coo's antibiotics are all finished and he seems to be back on the up thank goodness.
The seizures are still here but they're manageable so that's a bit of a bonus too.

I know for most Carers, one holiday period is pretty much the same as another.
Sometimes it can seem like just another day but I do hope you manage to enjoy Easter and at least pig out on some chocolate - I know I will! lol

In fact I've been rather naughty this year - I went to Thorntons
I could not resist one of their Easter eggs!

It was a chocolate and toffee one and the samples were...FAB!
I asked the lady to put both our names on it and if Coo plays his cards right, I just might share! LOL

I'm hopeful we'll get out for a bit over the weekend and guess what?

The sun's out too...woo hoo result!

Let's hope it lasts well at least till Sunday!

Happy Easter Chicks,
